A convicted felon who illegally possessed a gun was sentenced yesterday to five years in federal prison. Miykael Jolliff, age 20, from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, received the prison term after a March 19, 2026, guilty plea to being a felon in possession of a firearm. At the guilty plea, Jolliff admitted he possessed a gun after being previously convicted of felony offenses. In 2025, Jolliff was convicted of intimidation with a dangerous weapon and possession with intent to deliver marijuana. Jolliff was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams. Jolliff was sentenced to 60 months’ imprisonment. He must also serve a three-year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system. This case is part of Operation Take Back America a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime. Jolliff is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Lisa C. Williams and investigated by the Cedar Rapids Safe Streets Task Force. The task force is composed of representatives from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
