SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A Guatemalan National who had a complaint brought by the United States Attorney’s Office, pleaded guilty to an information charging him with illegal reentry into the United States after being previously deported. Jelber Gomez-Lopez, 33, pleaded guilty to the charge before U.S. Magistrate Court Judge David P. Rush. Under federal statute, illegally reentering into the United States after being previously deported is in direct violation of existing federal immigration law and is subject to a sentence of up to two years imprisonment. The maximum statutory sentences are prescribed by Congress and are provided here for informational purposes. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Carney. It was investigated by the Department of Homeland Security-Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Removal Operations, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
