Scottsdale Man Sentenced to More than Six Years in Prison for Embezzling Over $10 Million from Employer

PHOENIX, Ariz. – A former finance director who pleaded guilty to embezzling over $10.7 million from his employer was sentenced on August 10, 2026, in federal court. Mark Latham, 61, of Scottsdale, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Dominic W. Lanza to 78 months in prison and ordered to pay $10,752,535 in restitution to his employer. Latham previously pleaded guilty to wire fraud. Latham accepted a Finance Director role at a local company in 2009 and began embezzling from the company by paying his personal credit card debt with company funds, providing himself unauthorized bonuses, paying for a relative’s apartment with company funds, and directing company funds to his personal bank account. Latham continued this conduct until he was caught in 2025. He concealed his conduct by editing the company’s bank statements to remove payments to himself. Latham used the funds to lead a lavish lifestyle, including spending $39,000 on Super Bowl tickets in 2023, $29,731 on Taylor Swift concert tickets in 2023 and 2024, $46,248 for a room at the Four Seasons Hotel in Costa Rica in 2018, $38,827 on NFL season tickets from 2022 through 2024, and $28,098 on a golf simulator in 2024. In total, over the 17 years, Latham embezzled $10,752,535 from his employer. The FBI’s Phoenix Division conducted the investigation.
